wrong side surgery in rhode island

What a way to start off 2010. Maria Moretti 34, of North Providence checked into Rhode Island Hospital yesterday to have a simple carpal tunnel procedure performed on her left hand. Not only did the surgeons at the now infamous "wrong side surgery hospital" operate on the wrong hand, but they somehow replaced her right hand with someone's foot.

"This one's a toughie!", exclaims RI Hospital Spokesperson, Mallory Praktis. Then she giggled. "Sure, I've seen these surgeons operate on the wrong side before, but replacing a hand with a foot is a first for us. I bet this one costs us a pretty penny."

Ms. Moretti is upset about the screw-up, but she's also looking forward to the settlement. "My lawyer told me this morning I might as well quit my job and buy an island in the Pacific."

The hospital is not sure where the foot came from at at this point, so if you've been to RI Hospital within the past 48 hours (even as a visitor) and you're missing your right foot. Call the hospital as soon as possible.
